Wessex Cancer Trust
Women in Business Group Nominated Charity 2008
Wessex Cancer Trust was set up 1981 to deal with the problems of cancer in the Wessex area. The Trust covers Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, The Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight, supporting cancer patients and their families who live in these areas.
It does this by promoting cancer prevention, early detection, research and care, and gives practical help and counselling to cancer patients and their families. The trust also gives financial support to many projects in hospitals in the region, raising funds through a network of local groups who work closely with the Trust's administration and with the local communities and hospitals. Funds are raised in a multitude of ways from kind donations through to large organised events.
The Trust is thrilled that their charity has been chosen to be supported by The Women in Business Group in 2008, which will greatly help awareness of the Trust, and face-to-face networking is a great way of achieving this.
Wessex Cancer Trust has a strong association with Basingstoke. They raise approximately £1 million a year to help in a multitude of projects to help the fight against cancer.
